a star-shaped top hat on this big tree in Rockefeller Center
Since 2018, there has been a star-shaped top hat on this big tree in Rockefeller Center, whose design can only be done with clear tempered glass manufacturer. This star, designed by Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind, came to life with the help of glass manufacturer HMI Glass in Louisville, Kentucky.
Swarovski contributed more than 3 million crystals to the 70 rays that decorate the top of this 9-foot by 4-inch, 900-pound tree.
"[Orion] crystallized, beveled and polished the edges of the glass, and glued glass shards and Swarovski crystals to the spikes," said Leigh Berberian, Creative Marketing Director of HMI Glass. "[HMI] performed all the glass Laminated and cut. Sizes range from 24 inches long to 50 inches long spikes. The type of glass is 1/8 inch low iron laminated to 1/8 inch low iron, with EVA transparent interlayer."
According to the HMI clear tempered glass manufacturer, each spike is connected to its own light, and the electronic components form the core of the star-when lit, each spike glows from the inside, and the light is finally refracted by the front face of the crystal on top.
Jarrid Foster is the clear tempered glass manufacturer manager of HMI Glass's Boston plant. He also recognized the difficulties in the manufacturing process of this project.
"When we talk about challenges and how we finally laminate the entire sheet, because...the more we make, the easier they become...you figure out which ones don’t work, and then modify the process to be seamless Manufacturing," Foster said.
Berberian added that although HMI is known nationwide for its customized shower rooms, their capabilities do not stop there.
"Our knowledge of fine clear tempered glass manufacturer and specialty glass applications in the Boston factory sets us apart and makes us the perfect choice for these unique projects," she said.
