In the search for a solution to the urban homelessness crisis, Mindy Rex has what everyone seems to want: housing shower door suppliers.

Rex envisions renting out three shelters and a community building for $7,000 a month, treating them as a stopgap measure that can be mobilized for different emergencies across the state.
Sam Adams, assistant to Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, attended a virtual meeting recently organized by Rex. Rex also had a conversation with the staff of the Joint Office of Homeless Services. But so far, there has been no bite.
"People don't want to look unsupported," Rex said, but "I really have a hard time finding support from local partners or leadership."
Denis Theriault, a spokesperson for the joint office, said that the units they saw were not available for disabled people and were smaller than the Pallet Shelter single-person pods used in other county projects, and said that the modular structure is more Large designs may require more permits.

Rex does have some experience working with local governments.
