LG Electronics began commercialization of "smart mirrors"... large-scale supply of new apartments
LG Electronics uses smart mirrors as its hub to strengthen its penetration into the smart home market. As smart mirrors will be supplied to new apartments on a large scale, the creation of a smart home ecosystem led by LG Electronics is expected to accelerate.According to industry sources on the 12th, LG Electronics is in close discussions with major domestic construction companies on the large-scale supply of LG smart mirrors. If the contract is signed, all households will install smart mirrors when the new apartment is completed in a few years. Smart mirror refers to a mirror display that can search for weather information, find directions, control household appliances, manage schedules, and check energy usage in real time. As a smart home hub operated by LG Electronics' smart home platform "ThinQ Home", it can easily control LG Electronics' various home appliances through the mirror display. It is a touch mode, but it also has voice control functions. Consumers can manage home appliances away from LG smart mirrors. For example, when the air in the home is polluted, the smart mirror can display an alarm and automatically run the LG air purifier. LG Electronics aims to open up the ecology, and plans to connect smart mirrors with boilers, other brands of home appliances and lighting in the future. The goal is to implement a complete artificial intelligence (AI) home solution by controlling all smart devices in the home. LG Electronics also plans to connect smart mirrors and LG composite sensors and supply them at the same time. It recently developed a wall-mounted ultra-high-performance composite sensor that can detect indoor fine dust, concentration of harmful substances, temperature, humidity and occupancy. Linkage with LG composite sensors and smart mirrors to provide more accurate and convenient AI home solutions. Through discussions with various partners, LG Electronics plans to add various content to Smart Mirror, such as parking management, household energy consumption management, beauty care, and health inspections. It aims to provide at least two smart mirrors for each family, and eventually replace the mirrors in the home with LG smart mirrors, such as the bathroom and front door. At present, the domestic smart mirror market is still in its infancy. Smart mirrors are provided to some golf courses, movie theaters, and hypermarkets in the form of B2B, but the general household penetration rate is low. From this analysis, LG Electronics, which has differentiated image quality and display technology, has unmatched competitiveness in the smart mirror market at home and abroad. It is expected to discover a market that did not exist before and open up the global market, and focus on smart mirrors to accelerate its LG AI smart home solution strategy. Based on the synergy and smooth interoperability with LG Electronics' other home appliances, the sales of home appliances are also expected to increase. A person in charge of LG Electronics said, "At present, we have begun to supply LG smart mirrors to some studio apartments, but we cannot confirm other supply conditions."
